What type of homeschool family are we?

When we decided to home educate our children, I had no idea there were "types" of homeschool styles.  I just assumed that every family picked curriculum and made lesson plans and went lesson by lesson.  This is true for some families, but there are, in fact, actual homeschool style philosophies!
One of the most important things when determining what style your family is/will be is to remind yourself of why you decided to educate your children at home.  This is not only a great way to abide deeper in what you know is true for your family, but also it is a tangible form of having your priorities right in front of you.
Once you have your list of priorities on a sheet of paper, it's time to remember what is NOT important to your family.  Is it important to you that your kids are at public school grade level?  Is it important to you for your kids to play sports?  These non-importants are just as valuable to know as the things that are important- it helps us really hone our process.
Next, there are many resources online that can help us determine what philosophy best fits our family.  Here are a few links you may find helpful:

Determining your home school style will be tremendously helpful in your homeschool journey.  Picking out curriculum, finding a routine/rhythm to your days, and giving you a sense of direction in your process will be some of the benefits of pinning down your style!  Last, remember- this is a journey- have fun, enjoy the process!
